About

This site is dedicated to everything related to food. I have a passion for food, cooking, and gardening. I would like to share my experiences cooking and dining and hope it will help you. FYI, some of the articles I write are late at night or when I’m a little buzzed, coming home from a restaurant where I’ve been drinking a lot of wine, so don’t expect everything to be grammatically correct or spelled perfectly.  Food is supposed to be fun!

About Me

I was born in Laos, grew up in the United States, New Jersey, and live in Philadelphia, PA. I went to the Art Institute of Philadelphia and studied multimedia web design. I created this site to share my passion for food, cooking, and gardening. You can see some of my videos on Youtube.com/mesohungrygirl. Aside from cooking tutorials, I also eat out a lot and like to share my experiences and recommendations.

What I like to EAT

My favorite food of course is Lao food (Laos food) probably because I’m Laotion. I love seafood, American, European, or Asian, seafood is the best. I like my steaks rare, and eat a lot of vegetables just because they taste good. I generally enjoy all vegetables, there are only select few that I don’t like, and I don’t even know their names, but they are very bitter. Unlike other people, I like beets and all of my greens; broccoli, asparagus, collard greens, spinach, everything! I don’t really like dessert either. I grow a variety of herbs, they make everything taste better. I prefer salty and sour foods over sweet, and of course, love spicy food. Some of my favorite foods are: tuna tartare, cherry pepper shooters, blue crabs, papaya salad, baked artichoke, hwe dup bap, sashimi….then list can go on and on.

Thank you very much for you insights. Do you have any thoughts on growing edible flowers as micro greens simply indoors. Just micro greens in general indoors. Or suggestions of sources for seeds or info. thanks again very informative and enjoyable!

I order seeds from seedrack.com. They have a lot of exotic seeds. If you go to a flower show, they sell all different types of seeds, including microgreens. I go to the Philadelphia Flower Show that comes around once a year, it is very big. The only thing they didn’t have at the flower that I wanted was Sunchokes also known as Jerusalem Artichokes. They look like Sunflowers but they are not. They are tubers, you eat the roots, they are hard to find and you have to order them in season. You can buy Nasturtium seeds almost anywhere. Artichokes are also flowers. You can also eat squash flowers. Many Asian cultures eat flowers, even the bitter ones. For instance, the orange trumpet flowers(Campsis Radicans) are very bitter, but my mom and her friends eat them. The grow on vines and are very pretty, please not that they attract a lot of bees, my mom has them. In any case, please be very careful when you are eating flowers, some are poisonous and look very similar to edible ones. Whatever you do, do not eat or consume the Angel’s Trumpet of Death flower (also know as moon flower, it is white or white and pink and looks like a trumpet shape), this flower killed a teenage boy. It made him hallucinate and he chopped off his tongue and genital.

When growing flowers or any edible plant, choose potting soil carefully. There are many types of soil, just make sure it is for vegetables and organic. Some potting soil made for flowers have chemicals and toxins that make them grow better, but not meant for eating the flower. When growing seed indoors, just make sure it’s near a window. If you are growing micro-greens, you don’t need too much light which is good, but it will die if you if the plant gets bigger without enough light. Just make sure it is warm in your house, or you can put a heat rock or heater near your plants. Also your pot doesn’t have to be too deep since you will be cutting the plant at a young stage, it’s roots won’t be too big. I would have the pot wide instead of deep so I can grow more, since micro-greens are so small and usually used for garnish

This is a great site! My mom is from Thailand but I was raised in US. I lived all over bc my dad was in the Air Force. I guess you could say I’m kinda like Tiger Woods, my dad was in the military and my mom is from Thailand. I share some of the same likes as youself I love seafood and my favorite genre of food to eat is Chinese or Japanese, but I do like some Thai food but I’m not crazy about all the coconut milk and ginger used to make many of the dishes. Like yourself, I’m not a desert eater. Every now and then I MAY eat some form of desert but that’s rare. I REALLY love spicy foods though, basically as hot as I can stand. I currently work in IT but I’m also taking classes now at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in Web Design and Interactive Media. I like working w/ technology but I’m also an artist. I guess that would make me a nerdy artist. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello (Sa-Wad-Dee-Krab) and compliment you on your site! Also, you are very beautiful!

Thank you , I’ll have to subscribe your feed and read the rest I think. The first date my wife and I had nearly 20 years ago now was a lovely seafood restaurant in Napoli, so I’ve been spending so long trying to find a decent grilled lobster recipe like we had that night – our anniversary is next month so I’m hoping to surprise her!

I had some a Laotian friend once and she cooked “fuh” noodles and spicy/hot shrimp soup with meatballs. Can you show how to make them? Thank you.

  28. Sone says:

ran across your pic in Laokingdom (a site i have not been to in years) and saw that you had a passion for food – especially Lao food. when i get a chance, i love to cook. i thought about doing something like what you did here (posting youtube video’s on how to make Laotian food) and publishing a cook book of authentic Laotian dishes.

my family use to have a restaurant (Lao Restaurant – pretty unique name huh? lol) and that is where i learned how to coo..from my folks. Nothing is better than learning from your parents..the roots go deep!

anyways, glad that you came up with this idea and i must admit, I truly love the idea. maybe someday i will find the time to do something similar. until then, happy cooking and best of luck to you!

i can be reached at the email given if you had any questions about some of the authentic lao food.
